For Mr. Neville Stuart Pillans (1884-1964),** a well-known botanist and assistant curator at the Bolus Herbarium who collected plants near Clanwilliam and grew Gasteria pillansii in his garden in Rosebank, Cape Town, and assisted Prof. Henry Harold Welch Pearson in selecting the Kirstenbosch site for the future National Botanical Garden.
